Turner All-round performance guide Leicestershire to victory
In the Vitality Blast at Hove, Leicestershire Foxes defeated Sussex Sharks by four wickets, aided by Ashton Turner's unbeaten half-century, his 20th of his T20 career.
Both teams had only won once in their previous five games, and despite Harrison Ward and Dan Hughes's opening stand of 98 in nine overs, Sussex lost another good start when they were bowled out for 179.
In the first half of their response, Leicestershire consistently lost wickets, and in the 13th over, the score was 118 for 5. But Turner and skipper Ben Green plundered 41 from 20 balls to break the back of the chase and Turner sealed victory with 14 deliveries to spare.
His 57 runs off 28 balls were his second in the competition this season, with six fours and three sixes. It was a familiar tale of missed opportunities for Sussex. Their openers have put on 98, 67 and 98 in three of their last four games and lost them all.
They went 9 for 55 in ten overs against Hampshire on Tuesday, and this time they went 10 for 84 in 11.3 overs and were run out in 19.5 overs. As he and Hughes moved along unnoticed, Ward hit five sixes on his way to a career-best 69. But when Liam Trevaskis, a left-arm spinner, caught Ward trying to clear long, the innings went into a familiar tailspin.
Trevaskis and off-spinner Turner limited Sussex's scoring opportunities, and they lost wickets whenever they attempted to accelerate the pace. Trevaskis contributed 2 for 27 and Turner had Hughes caught at long on to help fill out the middle order.
Tom Alsop, who had just lofted Josh Davey onto the roof of the scoreboard for the first six for ten overs, helped Tom Price put on a valuable 34 from 19 deliveries before another collapse saw the final four wickets go down in six balls.
Leicestershire's fielding had been flawless up until the 18th over, when Tom Scriven put down Tom Alsop at deep midwicket. For the second game running Sussex had not batted through their 20 overs and Leicestershire always had the chase under control.
On another disappointing night for the hosts, left-armer Sean Hunt took two wickets in his T20 debut but also bowled five wides and two no balls.
