Akeal Hosein, Sufyan Moqim to play for Perth Scorchers in Global Super League
Akeal Hosein, a left-arm spinner from the West Indies, and Sufyan Moqim, a wristspinner from Pakistan, will be among the international Perth Scorchers squad members participating in the Global Super League (GSL) in Guyana later this month.
After Hobart Hurricanes participated in the previous edition, the Scorchers, led by regular captain Ashton Turner, were invited as the winners of the BBL. Mark Chapman of New Zealand, Dian Forrester of South Africa, West Indian Ackeem Auguste, Pakistan wicketkeeper Usman Khan, and former Australia international D'Arcy Short, who never played for Scorchers but had a long association with Western Australia, will also appear.
Along with Turner, Scorchers will include Test quick Jhye Richardson, all-rounder Aaron Hardie, who has recently been a part of the Australia white-ball set-up, and Ashton Agar. The West Australian was informed by WA's general manager of high performance, Kade Harvey, that "this is a bit of a unique opportunity."
"Once you explain the opportunity to the players and make them aware of it, all of our guys wanted to play. They are eager to leave. "We've been able to complement our group, who clearly play the majority of their cricket in conditions that are different from Guyana's," Due to Adam Voges' participation with Trent Rockets at the Hundred, Adam Voges will not be able to coach Scorchers during the tournament, which runs from July 23 to August 1.
The competition, which Guyana Amazon Warriors won last year, has a US$1 million prize pool. Desert Vipers, Lahore Qalandars, and San Fransisco Unicorns will also be featured in this issue.
