Nottinghamshire sign Binura Fernando as Mohammad Ali replacement
After Mohammad Ali was selected for Pakistan's Test squad, Nottinghamshire signed left-armer Binura Fernando from Sri Lanka for the remainder of their Blast campaign.
In his ten appearances for Notts, Ali has been in excellent form, finishing second only to Yorkshire's Hasan Ali in the competition with 19 wickets at 16.21. He is now scheduled to leave for Pakistan's Caribbean tour, and Fernando will take his place at Trent Bridge.
"I'm thrilled to be participating in the Vitality Blast with Nottinghamshire. To represent such a prestigious club is an incredible opportunity," he stated. "I can't wait to go to Trent Bridge, meet the players and fans, and help the team succeed. I can't wait to get started!"
Fernando will be available for Notts' final two group games, against Leicestershire at home and Yorkshire away, as well as the knockout stages in his first county appearance. Notts is currently atop the North Group and almost certainly qualified for the quarterfinals.
Peter Moores, Nottinghamshire's head coach, said: "It's exciting to be able to have Binura joining the squad at the business end of the competition. He has a track record of success in white-ball cricket and genuine international experience, and his skillset will work well with the other bowlers in our attack.
"It will be a shame to lose Mohammad Ali, who has done really well for us up to this point, but we wish him all the best with Pakistan and we're excited to have Binura join in his place," the organization stated.
