Gulf Giants sign Michael Klinger as batting coach ahead of ILT20 2027
Following the appointment of Simon Helmot as head coach to replace Jonathan Trott last month, Michael Klinger has been hired as the batting coach for the ILT20 team Gulf Giants.
Gary Brent has taken over as the strength and conditioning coach, and Kadeer Ali has joined as the fielding coach. The support staff also included bowling coach Shane Bond, physiotherapist James Pipe, and performance analyst Saurabh Walkar.
The Gulf Giants won the inaugural ILT20 championship in 2023, but they haven't won since and finished fifth in the six-team competition in 2025-26.
A team statement regarding the appointments stated that Klinger "is well acquainted with [the group's] high-performance environment and player development approach" and "brings extensive experience as both a player and coach." Klinger is also the head coach of Gujarat Giants, a WPL team owned by Adani Sportsline, the same company that also owns Gulf Giants.
Klinger stated, "This is an exciting opportunity to join another team within the group." "I'm looking forward to working closely with Simon and the rest of the staff to help build a solid unit that can make a big impact in the new season," said "Gulf Giants have strong foundations."
Klinger has experience in the WPL and the Hundred in women's cricket, as well as coaching and managing men's teams for Cricket NSW, Washington Freedom, and Melbourne Renegades. In the United Kingdom, Kadeer has primarily worked for Worcestershire and Birmingham Phoenix.
Despite having two years remaining on his contract with Melbourne Renegades, Helmot left that team and signed with Gulf Giants in the middle of May. Before Helmot, Trott was the coach of the Gulf Giants, but he left after just one season.
