Henry, Glenn Phillips ruled out of third Test against England
Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips have been ruled out with injuries for New Zealand's third Test against England, which begins on June 25 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The pacer, who took 11 wickets in the Oval Test victory, is out with a calf injury, and the centurion from that victory has a side strain.
According to a statement from New Zealand Cricket, Henry experienced pain during the Oval Test, and scans of his left calf revealed a low-grade muscle strain. The statement added, "Initial assessment suggests a recovery time of two to four weeks." Henry became the first New Zealand bowler in 36 years to rise to the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings earlier this week.
During the Oval Test, Phillips also felt his injury, a pain in his side. His recovery timeline must be determined through additional evaluation.
As they head into the Trent Bridge game with the chance to win a Test series in England, New Zealand will be hurt by this double absence. New Zealand did well after being outplayed in the first game of the series, but England had problems off the field that kept captain Ben Stokes and pacer Gus Atkinson out of the team. England is bolstered by the return of Stokes and Atkinson, whereas New Zealand is now weakened by the new injuries.
