Hannan Sarkar appointed Bangladesh U-19 head coach, Mahmudullah named mentor

Hannan Sarkar, a former national opener, has been appointed head coach of the Under-19 team by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Hannan takes over for the coach who won the World Cup, Naved Newaz. Newaz will move into a bigger role at the BCB, working with the Under-23 program and teaching coaches. In 2018, Newaz was given the job of coaching the Bangladesh Under-19 team. In 2020, the team won the ICC Under-19 World Cup, which marked the team's first ICC championship. At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday, BCB Game Development Committee chairman Faim Sinha told reporters, "We have appointed Hannan Sarkar as Under-19 head coach while Naveed will be working with us in the Under-23 program." To pursue coaching full-time, Hannan resigned from the national selection panel. The former Bangladesh batter claimed that the BCB's decision to prioritize local coaches for key roles rekindled his desire to coach. "Before this opportunity, I had a long-term goal of coaching. I had a coaching role before I became a selector. As many of you are aware, I coached in both the National League first-class competition and the Premier League for three years after retiring as a player in 2011." "After that, I went into selection. The opportunity presented itself after completing a nine-year career as a selector. "My dream of coaching was revived, especially when the Cricket Board began prioritizing and promoting local coaches," he stated. "I communicated with the board when the opportunity presented itself and resigned as a national selector one year prior to the expiration of my contract." I then worked as a coach for the Under-17 team. He stated, "It was definitely a good move in my life." "That is reflected in the fact that the Cricket Board now trusts me with the Under-19 team. It is without a doubt a tremendous platform for me," he added. The issue of players participating in multiple ICC Under-19 World Cups is one thing Hannan wants to address. He said that expanding opportunities and exposing more young cricketers to international competition were priorities. "I can relate to this problem because I was a selector in the past. It depends on how the head coach, selectors, chairman of Game Development, and others think. He stated, "It is a collective decision." "It is difficult for me, as head coach, to provide a definitive response at this time. "The selectors, chairman, and I will jointly select the procedure to follow when we sit down to discuss selection criteria," he stated. "Personally, I generally favor providing opportunities to new players after they have received significant exposure. Rather than repeatedly selecting the same player, promoting a new player often seems the wiser approach. However, the circumstances will determine the final decision," he stated. Hannan also stressed that player development, rather than age-group silverware, would remain the primary objective of the Under-19 programme. Hannan stated, "This (whether we prepare squad for development or trophies) was one of the issues we discussed very seriously when I spoke with our President and the chairman of the Game Development committee." "Our main focus will be developing players because after Under-19 cricket, whether they move on to the Under-23 team or the HP team, we want a significant number of these players-five, seven, or even ten-to become cricketers capable of representing Bangladesh in world cricket. Naturally, outcomes are important, and we will pay attention to them. However, the main focus will be on maintaining the procedure for developing high-quality international players. The results will take care of themselves over time," he said. While the BCB has permitted Hannan to take up coaching roles in domestic competitions. Mohammad Selim will be the fielding coach, Dollar Mahmud will be the pace bowling coach, Saifuddin Ahmed will be the physiotherapist, Morshed Hasan Caesar will be the trainer, and Sandeep Kumar Raman will be the performance analyst for Hannan's support staff. It had previously reported that Mahmudullah was going to become a mentor for the Bangladesh Under-19 team. The BCB officially confirmed this on Monday. The chairman of Game Development stated, "Mahmudullah will be with the Under-19 squad as a mentor." Launch of the Analytics Laboratory by BCB The BCB also made the launch of an Analytics Laboratory, which will use data, technology, and artificial intelligence to change player development. The project will be led by Sandeep Kumar Raman, a performance analyst. The laboratory will initially be set up inside the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur before gradually expanding to divisional centers all over the country. In a statement issued following the media briefing, the BCB stated, "The centre will maintain a comprehensive video database of players from the Under-14 level to the National Team, ensuring that coaches, players, and BCB management have access to vital performance data." "As part of the program, dedicated performance analysts will collaborate closely with coaches to work on individual player development, and coaches will be trained on how to use analytical data and technological resources effectively. The statement went on to say that "the laboratory will support bowling action correction, batting and bowling technique enhancement, skills development, and fitness monitoring." It also said that "the laboratory will also ensure a structured transfer of player information between coaching panels." The most recent analytical software and technological tools will be available at the facility. The BCB says that the initiative will use artificial intelligence in performance analysis and strengthen the country's high-performance and talent-development pathways.
